Nah. Despite the way the narrative worked out making it virtually impossible (Aang deciding to take a midnight swim and leave everybody) Katara would have just been a distraction for Aang and a target for Ozai. 

Not that she didn’t just end up being a target for Azula. But hey, she had to do something in the finale.

# its never really brought up # but the last words katara and aang actually speak to each other are when they argue in 3x18 # but they make up for it by making out in the last scene of the show # not a bad compromise if i do say so
