Erm, if you want my honest opinion, you have to absolute love your subject cause you will be spending the vast majority of the day sitting in your room reading about it. It’s 8 weeks of day in day out working. I got really excited today because I managed to have one day off which is a rarity. Often at open days they say that you can balance work with other activities, but I know people that play a lot of sport/go out loads and they get berated by their supervisors for not working hard enough.
The massive plus of Cambridge is that I know my life will be significantly different for making it here. A lot of places in Britain only hire Cambridge and Oxford students simply because of the way we are taught. And by getting in I know I’ve opened a lot of doors.
So yer, the main question you have to ask yourself is do you want to spend the vast majority of your university experience working furiously. If you love your subject it’s not so bad, but you’ve got to ask yourself that serious question before you apply. Oh, and you’ve got to get in, that’s pretty hard to.
